Beckham Stadium Plans Set Back

David Beckham has suffered a major setback in his attempts to start the new Miami MLS franchise after the City Council rejected the plans to build a stadium near the waterfront. Beckham had been hoping to build a brand-new stadium that would seat more than 20,000 people near the waterfront. This would give a major advantage to his franchise in terms of location, but this proposal drew several complaints from people residing in the area and businesses in and around the location.

Since the Port of Miami is one of the top employers in this region, the decision to build a new stadium largely rested upon their shoulders. Their influence certainly seems to have made an effect after the city rejected the proposal of the former Manchester United star, whose business group that has been called as Beckham Miami United, and also advised them to look at other locations. That has been public outcry at stadium is being funded from money from the council. This was the case with the Miami Marlins baseball team, who built a brand-new stadium and the cost of £ 500 million that was provided by the council.

Beckham, though, revealed at the time of unveiling his new MLS franchise that the stadium will be funded entirely from the investor’s pocket. Beckham has teamed up with a few other investors in order to start this franchise. He is also thought to be in negotiations to bring in NBA star Lebron James, who is his friend, into the project. Beckham is thought to be investing in excess of £ 20 million on this project. The stadium is expected to cost more than £ 150 million. Some of the partners in the new MLS franchise include the likes of Simon Fuller, who is a British entrepreneur, and billionaire Marcelo Claure.

Balotelli tipped for Arsenal move

Italy’s World Cup hero Mario Balotelliis reportedly in line for a potential return to the Premier League after Arsenal emerged as favourites to sign the striker. Balotelli showed his ability to score against Premier League defenders by grabbing the winner in Italy’s 2-1 victory over England in their opening match of the World Cup, and the enigmatic forward could now be set to end his time with AC Milan and head to London.

Balotelli’s agent Mino Raiola has refused to rule out a move to Arsenal, admitting the Gunners were one of the few clubs in the world who would be able to attract the Italy international.

“Arsenal is a fantastic club in London. Only 10 clubs in the world maximum could afford Mario – like all premium players and he is one of the greatest. I won’t make any further comment until after the transfer window closes,” insisted the Italian’s agent.

The former Manchester City striker has failed to settle to life back in Italy since his return to Serie A. While Balotelli has already racked up 30 goals for Milan in less than 60 games, the 23-year old has made it clear he is far from happy with a number of issues, not least the club’s continued absence from the top of the Serie A table and the Champions League.

A return to the Premier League with Arsenal would guarantee Balotelli a return to European football’s top table, and Gunners fans would finally get the striker they have been crying out for since Robin van Persie left for Manchester United. With a manager of Arsene Wenger’s experience, Arsenal fans would be confident the Frenchman would be able to control a player who seems to make as many headlines off the pitch as he does on it.

Klinsmann Takes Stance On Donovan

Jurgen Klinsmann’s omission of Landon Donovan from the USA’s World Cup squad has been one of the biggest talking points ahead of the tournament this year as it surprised a lot of people in the game.

Donovan has been a key part of the States’ success at recent World Cups and is still arguably the best known American football around the world.

Although the 32-year old’s record of 57 goals for his national team speaks for itself, in Klinsmann’s defence, the forward has not quite showed the same form this year. After taking a break from the game at the start of 2013, the LA Galaxy-forward has struggled for consistency.

In qualifying for Brazil, Donovan played just five games, contributing to one goal in those matches. His finish came against Mexico in a 2-0 victory near the back end of their final group to reward Betfair anytime goalscorer backers. The USA finished top with 22 points ahead of Cost Rica and Honduras, respectively after winning seven of their 10 fixtures.

Not many people expected Donovan to start at the World Cup with Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore likely to be the partnership which the US coach will go at the top end of the pitch. However, in leaving him out completely, the German is making a bold statement. Instead he has preferred the likes of Aron Johannsson and Chris Wondolowski to provide cover in the squad for his forwards.

Some will argue Donovan’s experience at major tournament could have been important to help some of the younger players in the squad deal with the pressure that comes with a World Cup. He may also have been used late in games if the US were chasing a goal, just they did against Algeria in 2010 when he popped up to grab the winner which helped them seal the group as winners ahead of England.

It now looks like this could be the end of the all-time leading American goalscorer’s career with the national team. He will continue to play in the MLS this year and if his performances improve, a recall is not out of the question but the younger players coming through the ranks are likely to be given a chance after Brazil. Emphasis will then be on for 2020 to build a side which could be competitive for Qatar. Klinsmann has already been given a contract extension so whatever happens in over the next couple of months, he expected to build towards the next major tournament.

USA are not fancied to progress from Group G in which they are outsiders in the qualification market. However, if they can beat Ghana and pick up a draw against either Germany or Portugal they may just surprise people and make the last 16 once again.

In 2013, USA beat both Germany and Italy in friendlies to prove they are capable of mixing it against some of the best countries in international football. Their opener against Ghana is a must win game or else their stay in Brazil could be very short.

Beckham Expects Van Gaal To Be A Success

Manchester United icon David Beckham has stated that he expects new manager Louis van Gaal to be a success at the club. The Dutchman was named as the replacement for David Moyes after weeks of negotiation. The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona manager is currently in charge of the Dutch national team, but he has announced his decision to step down from the role after the World Cup 2014. He is one of the top managers in world football after having won several trophies including the Champions League.

Beckham, who was critical of United’s decision to sack David Moyes after just 10 months in charge, said that he expects van Gaal to bring stability back to the club. He also says that it would not be surprising if United started challenging for titles once again from next season. The club finished in a disappointing seventh place and they will be without any form of European football for the first time in more than two decades. Beckham recently announced his decision to be part of the MLS. He will be starting a new franchise in the MLS, but the work has been hit by several groups opposing his decision to start a stadium in the Port of Miami.

“He has got a history of working with young players, bringing players through academy systems at places like Ajax. That can only be great for Manchester United. As a Manchester United fan and for Manchester United as a club, to have someone like this with his pedigree – he has worked with some of the biggest and best players in the world,” said Beckham.

After becoming the manager, Louis van Gaal stated that he is confident that the club can start challenging for the Premier league title in his first season at the club.
