Former Manchester United star David Beckham has revealed that he wants striker Wayne Rooney to stay at Old Trafford amidst heavy speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea. Chelsea have made two offers for the player, which have been rejected by Manchester United.
Former manager Sir Alex Ferguson said at the end of last season that he had handed an official transfer request, but that statement is now proven to be false. However, Rooney could hand his second transfer request of his United career if he sees any threat to his dream move to Chelsea.
Mourinho is a huge fan of Rooney and he has tried to sign the England international on several occasions in the past. At 26 years of age, the striker has been at United for the last nine years. Many have been saying that it is probably a good time for a change and a new challenge in his career. The arrival of Robin van Persie has threatened his position at the club. Beckham, who left United when he was at his peak, has said that Rooney should consider staying at Old Trafford. New Manchester United Chief Executive Ed Woodward has said that there is no way the club would allow the sale of the player.
“I hope he stays because Wayne is such a talented player and I see him as a Manchester United player. Obviously that’ll be his decision and his decision only. As a Man United fan, I want to see the best players at the club and I hope he stays,” Beckham told Sky Sports. “I am not sitting down with any player on an extension and there is no trigger date in the diary. Would we be afraid to run a contract down? Of course not,” said United States executive Woodward.
