New York Red Bulls overturned a 1-o deficit in the first leg against Columbus Crew SC with a 3-0 victory in the second leg to propel his team to the Eastern Conference Final.
However, stats were in favour of the Red Bulls before the match, considering they have a good record of bouncing back after losing the first leg of matches.
Both teams started the game quietly as there were no major chances created in the opening minutes, though the Red Bulls fans kept cheering their team on. The Red Bulls defense featuring Aaron Long and Kemar Lawrence justified all the praise they have been receiving since the opening game of the season by putting in another strong performance.
Not only was the defense impressive, the attackers also flaunted their attacking prowess, with Daniel Royer registering two goals and Alex Muyl getting one for himself.
Receiving a cross from the wing, Royer laid the ball off to Long who let off a fierce shot ricocheting off Muyl’s foot and into the net for the first goal.
The third goal was a screamer from Daniel Royer who fired the ball past the Columbus keeper from a few yards out, putting a nail in the coffin of Columbus’ season
Royer was the cream of the crop for NYRB as he was involved in all three goals, leading the Bulls to victory and to the Eastern Conference Final.
After a stellar performance against Columbus Crew, the Red Bulls now face a tricky test against Atlanta United in the Eastern Conference Final on November 25 in Atlanta and November 29 in Harrison.
