Real Madrid Spend Extravagant Money Yet Again

Real Madrid once again spent extravagant money on a player after bringing in James Rodriguez for around £ 60 million.
The Colombian international becomes the fifth most expensive player in the world. Madrid occupy four out of the top five transfers of all-time. Rodriguez comes on the back of an impressive World Cup campaign in which he finished as the top scorer with six goals. This almost helped Colombia reached the semifinals of the competition when they were previously expected to struggle in the group stages. Rodriguez has sealed the move to the Santiago Bernabeu just 12 months after moving to Monaco.

One of the players who has made a similar big-money move to Madrid in the past, David Beckham, says that the Spanish club always had top quality players. He is confident that Rodriguez will be able to settle at his new club. Since the player comes on the back of a good run of form, he can hit the ground running according to Beckham. It is expected that Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti will be changing the formation from the 4-3-3 employed last season in order to accommodate Rodriguez. Last season was one of the most memorable in Madrid’s history after they won the 10th Champions League title.

“[Real Madrid] will always have players who are different and James is a great player – he had a great World Cup and scored the goal of the tournament. The club’s brought in some very special players and that has strengthened the team. I know how important the Champions League is to Real Madrid and I’m happy for Carlo Ancelotti, the president, the lads and the fans,” said the former England international, who once made a £ 25 million move to Spain from Manchester United. He spent four seasons at the Spanish capital.
