Sevilla Overcome First Leg Defeat

Sevilla have made it through to the semi-final of the Europa League following a 4-2 aggregate win over Porto.

The Spanish side were beaten 1-0 in the first leg in Portugal but were successful 4-1 at home last night to move within one step away from the final in Turin in May.

Sevilla are now third best in the outright betting behind favourites Juventus and Benfica with Betfair.

It took the hosts just five minutes to open the scoring at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Sevilla skipper Ivan Rakitic made no mistake from the penalty spot to level the scores on aggregate and reward first goalscorer punters with Betfair on the Croatian.

Unai Emery’s men then took the lead following some good work by Carlos Bacca. He was able to steer the ball into the path of Vitolo who finished off a good move by the La Liga club.

The deficit for Lyon got bigger four minutes later when Bacca put Sevilla 3-0 up on the night.

There was a glimmer of hope for the French side early in the second half as Coke was shown red for the hosts which left them with 10 men for the remainder of the game. However, when substitute Kevin Gameiro scored after picking up a loose ball, their fate was sealed to the delight of backers of the Spanish side at Betfair.

Ricardo Quaresma gave Porto a consolation goal in injury time with a 20-yard strike but that was all the travelling Portuguese fans had to celebrate in a largely dominant display from the hosts.

Sevilla are in action on Sunday when they are away to Betis in the Spanish league. Betfair make them favourites to come away with all three points from their trip.
